Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Germany

So far Sage and I have taken a train to Stuttgart and a bus to Strasbourg. Naturally we had to use a different mode of transportation this time. So, we rented a car for a little road trip! It was a last minute thing and we invited two more of my friends to join us; Nao and Nahia.

We drove to Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Germany on the autobahn (highway). It’s about a two hour drive south of Heidelberg. Rothenburg ob der Tauber is a medieval city that has been around since 950.

We walked around for a bit and then climbed to the top of another tower aka more stairs. The lookout over the city was incredible. This was the first city in a while where I could see a town and a lot of greenery.

Then we went to a crime and torture museum. This was…interesting. It was neat to see how punishments were given out in the past. There were strict rules before someone could be punished. For example, if a man touched a woman he would be fined if she felt threatened. Men, women, and children could be punished or tortured for crimes. I could go on but I’ll just let you look it up if you’re interested. The museum was called “The Criminal Museum” (Kriminalmuseum).

After that we grabbed some much needed lunch at a cute little Italian place. The food was impeccable and the environment was lively. Each of us gobbled down our food. I ordered a simple Margherita pizza. The sauce that they made was exquisite. It was not too acidic nor too sweet. It had the right amount of ingredients and you could taste each one perfectly. I highly recommend that people try Italian food in Europe if you get the chance.

This trip was fascinating to say the least. We drove 100mph on the autobahn (there really isn’t a speed limit unless one gets posted). We ran into two other UNC alumni (graduated this year). I got to speak English, German, and Italian today. This was my first road trip ever  and it consisted of an old friend and two new friends that I’ve made in Heidelberg. I’m grateful that we went on this trip. We only walked 8 miles today though. However, it’s about time for me to take a nap because we have a bus to catch at 1:50 a.m to Zurich, Switzerland. Hooray for being young and still willing to do these types of things, haha. Peace!
